Activities - Interns Diary Gabrielle 2012

In April 2012, ICOMOS Ireland warmly welcomed French intern Gabrielle Amiot. Gabrielle is currently completing a Masters in Mediation of Culture and Heritage at Avignon University, and worked with ICOMOS Ireland from April to July 2012.

"I started my internship at ICOMOS Ireland two weeks ago. These two weeks have been full of new experiences, new people, new theories. I have to start by saying a big thank you to everyone who helped me during my first days in ICOMOS Ireland in Dublin. During these two weeks, I had the chance to go to Tara and to Brú na Bóinne. I really enjoyed this day, it showed me Irish heritage, and the devices used to promote it. I learnt a lot by observing and listening. Since then, I am getting more involved in the ICOMOS  Ireland website by uploading and structuring the archives. It gives me the opportunity to catch up on the activities of ICOMOS Ireland. I am excited to be here, to live new experiences and gain new knowledge during these three months of intership."

"Since I started a month ago, I have had a lot of new experiences. I am discovering Ireland in the sun. I did a little trip to go to Galway, and had the chance to visit the Abbey of Clonmacnoise. It is interesting to observe how they chose to conserve the cross and how they built the interpretation scenario around it. Then we went to Clonbroc Castle, I was really pleased to see how it was restored. Then my friends joined me in Galway and I savored the sweet atmosphere of the city, as much as a Guinness after a full day of visits. We went to Connemara, singing Michel Sardou’s song, looking for the dark clouds and the lakes. It was even better than I could imagine visiting the Aran Islands, with Dun Angus Fort and the big cliffs. I am enjoying the Irish way of life, and the sun is coming to make it perfect."
