ICOMOS Ireland Membership

Applicants for membership must demonstrate an interest in and be working professionally in the area of cultural heritage. Applicants for membership should be made in writing to the Membership Secretary on the ICOMOS Ireland application form, see details below. Applicants are considered by the Executive Committee and/or the National Committee and are assessed on the basis of criteria. Applicants are then notified by the Membership Secretary of the outcome of their application.

TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP - Annual subscription

  • Individual Full Membership - € 80 (Unwaged / Under 30 - € 60)
  • Associate / Student Membership - upon request
  • Institutional Membership - upon request
  • Honorary Membership


Individual Membership is open to any individual actively engaged in the conservation of monuments, groups of buildings or sites:

  • as a member of the scientific, technical or administrative staff of a national, regional or local monuments, fine arts or antiquities service;
  • as a decision-maker or as specialist engaged in the conservation, restoration, rehabilitation and enhancement of monuments, groups of buildings and sites.
  • each applicant for membership must agree to comply with the Ethical Commitment Statement of ICOMOS International.


Institutional Membership is open to any institution:

  • concerned with the conservation, protection, restoration, rehabilitation, enhancement or animation of historical monuments, groups of buildings and sites;
  • including those which own or are responsible for historical monuments, groups of buildings and sites; and
  • those which devote all or part of their efforts to such activities.


Honorary Membership can be conferred by the Executive upon individuals who have rendered distinguished service in the field.

If a candidate fails to be successful in the application process, that candidate may re-apply after a period of 1 year.
Each successful candidate for membership will be sent a letter of confirmation (which states the subscription fee payable),and provided with the link to a copy of the Memorandum and Articles of Association of ICOMOS Ireland. 

Each successful candidate shall then return to the Membership Secretary of ICOMOS Ireland a written undertaking to abide at all times by the Ethical Commitment Statement, together with the annual subscription fee.

Upon approval of your membership, the annual subscription is due on the 15th October each year.

No member in arrears with his or her subscription fee for three months shall be permitted to vote at any meeting of ICOMOS Ireland. A member who is in arrears with their subscription for six months shall be deemed to have forfeited their membership but may be reinstated, at the discretion of the Board, on payment of the amount due.



Any member may at any time resign their membership of ICOMOS Ireland by giving notice in writing to the Membership Secretary. The Board may at any time in its absolute discretion and without assigning any reason call upon any member to resign.

Membership of ICOMOS Ireland does not confer any professional accreditation and should not be used in this context.

ICOMOS Ireland seeks to gather a membership that will include recognized experts in their field of specialization; to recruit young professionals seeking such specialization; and it aspires to give all members ample opportunities and stimulus to become actively engaged in the work of the National Committee.

There is an Appeal procedure in place to the ICOMOS Advisory Committee and to the ICOMOS Executive Committee against refusal of an application for membership or dismissal by a National Committee, which shall be available to all applicants by contacting This email address is being protected from spambots.
